I think we can safely say that summer has finally arrived here in the UK. How long it will last is another story, but for now, it’s time to enjoy the longer days and the warm sunshine while we have the chance! If you find that your skincare is starting to lack and isn’t performing as it used to, there are simple skincare adjustments you should be making to accommodate the rising temperatures and other seasonal changes.
Seasonal Tips
I think a lot of people have the misconception that a good skincare regimen is going to be complicated, but I’m here to tell you that clean, simple skincare is doable and highly effective. Once you get used to incorporating it into your daily routine and you keep a few key things in mind, it will become second nature to you.
Now, in terms of summer skincare, the first thing I would say you need to be super savvy about is sunscreen application. That’s not to say that sunscreen is only for summer, because that isn’t the case. You should apply a daily SPF all year-round to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, but especially so during summer with increased daylight hours and a higher risk of sun damage.
SPF minimises your risk of premature ageing while also protecting your skin from sunburn. Choose a sunscreen that offers an SPF of at least 30, as well as broad spectrum protection and lip protection. SO many people forget the lips, which is why it isn’t uncommon to see skin cancers form in this delicate area.
The next thing to remember as part of your simple skincare routine this summer is to moisturise. During the warmer months, it’s a good idea to switch out your thicker creams for lighter formulas that aren’t going to weigh your face down in the heat. You can even find a moisturiser with added SPF to give your sun protection a boost while ensuring your skin stays hydrated and healthy.
Personally, I enjoy the heat, but I know it can be a very sticky, irritating time of year for many people. You might be tempted to wash your face or hop in the shower more often in an attempt to cool down, but you should try and avoid this behaviour if you can. This is because you might dry out your skin and strip it of natural moisturising properties. Try and stick to showering once a day and washing your face morning and night with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. The only exception would be after exercise and extensive sweating.
As we do tend to sweat more in summer, you might notice that your pores are feeling clogged up and blemishes are starting to appear, especially with an increase in sunscreen application. To combat this, remove excess debris by exfoliating once or twice a week with a gentle exfoliant. With that said, if you have sunburn, leave this to heal of its own accord as exfoliation could seriously irritate the area and affect the healing process.
Your Skincare Specialist
If you are at all worried about your skincare for whatever reason, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and schedule a consultation here at Nue Skin & Laser Clinic. It might be that you have some unexplained symptoms that you’re struggling to manage, or perhaps you need some tailored expert advice to get your daily regimen in check.
As a skincare expert, I know just how difficult it can be to solidify a simple skincare routine that works for you. The market is completely oversaturated with products that it can be hard to find what you’re looking for, and even then there’s no guarantee that it will work. I can recommend truly effective products depending on your individual wants and needs.
During your consultation, I take the time to understand your concerns, assess your skin and determine an effective course of action. It might be that skincare alone isn’t enough to see the results you’re looking for, which is when we’d look into a bespoke skin rejuvenation plan here at the clinic. I take a holistic approach to treatment and care to guarantee maximum results.
Last month I spoke about the consultation process in more depth right here on my blog, so if you’re wondering Why You Should Book A Skin Consultation At Nue Skin & Laser Clinic, have a read!
